Motcombe Village Proud Owners of their own Community Shop and Post Office On Tuesday 8th June, contracts were exchanged and completed and Motcombe village shop and post office became a community coop, barely six months since the campaign was launched…a huge achievement. Motcombe Community Shop started trading the following day with a temporary skeleton service. For a short period the shop will be open from 9 to 11am Monday to Saturday selling newspapers, bread, milk and a few basic items and the post office 9 to 11am Monday to Friday. We expect to reopen the whole shop and post office with a new layout, a new team of staff and volunteers, fresh stock, a coffee shop and extended opening hours at the end of the first week of July. Shop manager, Sally Orman and her team of new volunteers will endeavour to keep the shop open during refurbishment. Watch out for notices at the shop for changes to hours and access. Training sessions for shop volunteers has started. Anyone interested in becoming involved in the Community Shop and Post Office as a shareholder or as a volunteer should contact Alex Buck, Chairman, Shop Management Committee tel 01747 852593 email

Save The Royal Oak! The planning application by Hall & Woodhouse to convert the Royal Oak into 3 homes was refused by North Dorset District Council in March. The brewery may appeal but if it can be shown that there is enough support for the pub the appeal could be overturned and the pub saved. The Royal Oak Action Group was set up with the aim of saving the pub, and we are trying to gauge interest and support. We would be very grateful if as many people as possible could complete the short online survey at http://www.kwiksurveys.com?s=KHOMLK_ba29866d - Alternatively there is a paper copy in the June edition of the Villager which can be returned to:
The “Save The Royal Oak” table at the village fete on June 12th - The Village Shop
- Bee Milton, 27 The Limes
- Gail Potter, “Wintersgrace”, Elm Hill
If you have any suggestions or queries, please contact Jon Rose, 07821 872948 or
